Foul Smelling Air Conditioners

It doesn’t happen often but every once in awhile we get asked why does our A/C smell? In these situations it’s usually a good idea to get that A/C checked out and figure out where the odor is coming from. Leaving the issue unchecked can sometimes lead to more severe problems or even heath risks.

We Smell Sulfur When The System Kicks On

If you smell sulfur when the system boots on this is never a good thing. More often that not you may have a rodent that has made it into your system and passed on. They can make their way into your system from any number or small holes or crevices. It these situations it’s important to find them, get them out and get the messed cleaned up before it passes anymore foul smells or sickness into your home

Mold or Mildew Smell

In the humid weather months here in St. Louis, mold and mildew can grow easily when moisture is present. You could have a mold or mildew buildup within your unit or somewhere in your duct system. It’s easier to spot an issue within your unit but somewhere in your duct system is more difficult to get at. Our technicians are qualified to find something in your unit or even have your duct system cleaned up.

Exhaust-Like Smells or Fumes

Not only is mold, mildew and sulfur bad but exhaust like fumes and burning smells isn’t good either. Unfortunately there never seems to be one culprit to point your finger at. In rare instances it can be a fluke where your system is pulling in a smell from something else releasing exhaust. Other times your unit could be leaking and pulling in outside smells from somewhere else. These may be pulling from your garage or even a shed attached to the home. These fumes can be very dangerous or even deadly if not addressed.

The bad news is sometimes there will be smells that you don’t particularly like or care for and you’re just have to endure. When we have those moments we just blame it on our old age 😉
